The Art in the Dunes Festival promotes community
awareness of Bermuda Dunes as a great place to live,
work and play. It is the goal of the event to schedule
activities that will promote a wholesome family
atmosphere for the residents, businesses and visitors
of the Coachella Valley. Our objective is to improve
the image of Bermuda Dunes by demonstrating the
Spirit and Creativity of its residents.

PLANS INCLUDE:
Funding of the Arts for the Desert Sands
Unified School District

WE ARE PROUD TO INTRODUCE OUR
MASTER OF CEREMONIES AND MUSIC
COORDINATOR

LOU GALVAN
You may know LOU for his outstanding
performances on the McCallum Stage, such as,
"Jacob" in "La Cage Aux Folles" or the "Wicked
Witch" in the "Wizard of Oz", but most desert
dwellers aren't aware he is also a gifted vocalist,
songwriter and musician, playing bass, guitar and
drums (is there anything he can't do?) Known in
local
theater circles as the best physical comedic actor
in
the valley, He is the recipient of
a "Best Lead Actor"
and a "Best Supporting Actor Award" from the
Desert Theatre League and produced and directed
Riverside County's 2008 Arabian Night's Pageant.
Lou has also been active with the City of
Coachella’s annual “Chili Festival” as Events
Coordinator, bringing local talent to the stage
from Brazilian Dancers to Contemporary
musicians. And of course his other
passion…performing with his band “Alyce Bowie,”
which does cover music from the 70’s to the
present. Lou is very excited to be involved with Art
in the Dunes Festival, not only for the purpose of
promoting music; but it gives him the feeling that
he is doing something positive for the community
of which he has been a part of for many years.

RENEE VARGAS
VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHER

Renee will be covering the events of the
Festival...

I recently discovered my high school art teacher
has moved to the Palm Springs area...so if you are
reading this Mr. Root....I hope to run into you at
the Bermuda Dunes Art Festival.

I married in High School and had four children
almost immediately.  I never stopped producing
some form of art including wall murals through out
my home.  As the kids grew and figured out how
to hold pens, paintbrushes..etc...they started
dabbling in my artwork.  I decided to photograph
what I wanted to paint and save the photos for a
time I would not have interference from the kids.
Photography took hold of my life.

In the mean time I keep myself busy with the
Riverside County Date Festival Pageant, Children's
Playhouse Productions  and local music venues
both video taping and photographing them.
Presently I am finishing a Music Video of Ali Baba
and the Den of Thieves from the 2009 Riverside
County Date Festival, Cinderella produced by
Children's Playhouse Productions and Evita,
performed at the McCallum Theatre by students
from the College of the Desert.  The most recent
event I have photographed is the Talent Quest
2009 Karaoke Competition.  I photographed the
local venue and then went on to Oceanside for the
Regional Competition and will be going to the
Nationals in September to continue documenting
this event and photographing the contestants in
nightly contest held in the Lounge of the
Tropicana Hotel in Laughlin, Nevada.

Did I mention I designed and sewed a dress for a
contestant in Talent Quest 2009?  I also quilt
both traditional and art quilts and have won a few
contests with that as well.
